In this book, an affectionate Grammy teases her grandchildren telling them they simply cannot grow up! She and they each understand the bittersweet feeling behind the teasing, loving admonition that they are to remain her little precious ones forever. They are full of authentic glee telling her that she can't stop them and they will grow up! And indeed, may we adults nurture and guide the children along their way toward their true identities.
The author suggests you read “My Grammy Says” to your little ones using your own name, e.g. Nana, Grandma, Auntie, Mommy or Papa. Spend time exploring the vocabulary and concepts in their minds about getting older, learning, growing up and the things you enjoy about being with them as they are right now.
Diana Seabeck (1947) was raised in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. She attended five elementary schools and eventually put down roots in Wyoming. Diana married an artist, Robert, raised two sons and has lived there for 47 years. She enjoys wearing many 'hats' in her private life and seldom lacks for something stimulating and fulfilling to do. Also known as Grammy D, Diana especially enjoys wearing the grandmother hat with two granddaughters and three grandsons. In her professional life Diana worked in public school with children and parents as a Speech-Language Pathologist and was particularly interested in children's developing language and vocabulary. She left the work-world of writing and implementing Individual Educational Plans with students and spent over ten years writing federal and state grants and managing them with a team of five employees. This led to several community collaborations that resulted in improved prevention services for at-risk children and youth in her community. After returning to her real career, Diana had the privilege of working with students 12-15 years old and ultimately with graduate students at the University of Wyoming. There she supervised their Masters' level clinical practice in Speech-Language Pathology along with three special colleagues.
GrandBob, Robert Seabeck, created the illustrations that lovingly capture the essence and promise of children growing up everywhere. An artist whose artwork is displayed in collections and museums, throughout Wyoming and beyond, Robert specializes in personalized commissions.
